Our Orange Whip Review
There's no question that the Orange Whip is one of the most popular and widely used training aids out there. It is a common item found in golf bags all over the world. But is this popularity merited? Do so many people use this tool because of great marketing and endorsements from high profile players? Or does the Orange Whip really improve your golf swing? We put the Orange Whip through extensive testing and have the answers to each of these questions. Below you will find a review of our experience as well as the results of our tests.
Short History of the Orange Whip Golf Trainer
The inventor of the Orange Whip, Jim Hackenberg, had aspirations of playing golf on the PGA tour. Unfortunately, he never realized his dream of becoming a PGA tour player. So, he did the next best thing. He became a professional golf coach.
Jim found, as all coaches do, that one of the biggest struggles for his students was swinging with a good rhythm. Without good rhythm, you can't have a smooth golf swing. Without a smooth swing, making good contact with the ball is nearly impossible. And there is nothing more frustrating in golf than making bad contact. Improper rhythm in a swing is very easy to spot, but very difficult to coach. A smooth golf swing with correct rhythm is something you've got to feel to learn.
So Jim set out to create a tool to improve the rhythm and flow of a golf swing. This kind of tool would help his coaching immensely because it would help his students feel what proper rhythm felt like. This would spare him from having to try to explain it or demonstrate it, only to have students continue to fail to implement what was being said and shown.
The Orange Whip was born and quickly became one of the best golf swing training aids ever. It is a common item that is used by many professionals and amateurs alike.
Our Orange Whip Testing
The Orange Whip is heavier than we anticipated it would be. This was also feedback we received from nearly every member of our team that tested it. Because of its weight, swinging it is a little awkward in the beginning. After our first session, we could really feel that we had worked the muscles throughout our shoulders and arms.
Feedback from this tool is immediate. If you try to rush through or hesitate at any point throughout your golf swing, the weighted ball responds instantly. That instant feedback is invaluable and ensures you don't use the Whip incorrectly. Many training tools when used incorrectly will simply teach or further instill bad habits. Not this one.
We tested the Orange Whip with several of our students that are newcomers to the game of golf. We had them swing with the whip regularly. When we compared their swings in before and after videos, the results were obvious: their swing was smoother and had better rhythm. This thing really helped our students grasp what the rhythm of the swing should feel like.
When you return to swinging with your golf club after using the whip, it feels like you are swinging a feather. It takes a couple of minutes to get used to a regular club again. And the longer you go without swinging a real club while still practicing with the whip, the longer it takes to get used to the real club.
Conclusion
This tool was well liked by our team members and is loved by our students. And the bottom line is this tool works. It really promotes a smooth swing and teaches and helps you feel the correct rhythm of a swing. The Orange Whip has become one of our all-time favorite training tools. It is truly a fantastic tool in any of the following 3 applications:
1. Improving the smoothness and rhythm of your golf swing
2. Increasing strength and flexibility specifically needed for golf
3. Warming up before the golf range or a round on the course
