DST Compressor 8 Iron Review
There is little doubt that the DST Compressor will be one of the oddest golf clubs you've ever seen or held…at first. The curved shaft looks so bizarre and feels equally as bizarre when you first hold it. So how can this bizarre, curved club help you or anybody else? It's simple. It will help you become a better ball striker.
DST stands for Delayed Strike Trainer. That is, it delays the strike of the ball until the hands are in front of the ball. This is where the curved shaft comes into play. To hit the ball cleanly with the DST Compressor, your hands must be out in front of the ball. This is referring to impact position, and this training tool has one purpose: to ensure correct impact position.
Why the DST Golf Compressor?
This club was designed after studying dozens of the best swings on earth. Every swing studied had the same impact position, with the hands pressed forward in front of the ball and the shaft bent back towards the ball at impact. And this impact position will be present amongst the top players currently on the PGA tour as well. The DST Compressor was designed to help you achieve this same impact position.
What are the benefits of correct impact position? You can certainly hit clean, straight shots with your hands lined up with the ball. Correct impact position, however, will result in cleaner shots, better ball compression at impact, and ultimately greater distance. This is why 15 of the top 25 golfers in the world use this tool.
How Does the DST Compressor Work?
The club works by utilizing muscle memory. If you don't use the club correctly, you will mishit the ball. Badly. And get ready for this to happen a lot. The learning curve differs by user, but know it is going to take practice (for some, a lot of practice) to start hitting with the DST cleanly and consistently. But the more you practice the more you get used to it, and the more your muscle memory is storing the feeling of correct impact position.
After using the DST Compressor for a little while, I was very nervous to go back to my regular clubs. Surprisingly, there was almost no adjustment necessary to transition back. I remembered, rather, my muscles remembered, what the impact position felt like. I did have to concentrate a bit more on pressing my hands forward, but the transition back was relatively smooth. And the result was better ball striking!
And we've used this golf training aid with many of our students with similar results. We can confidently say there is not a better tool on the market for improving your impact position, and therefore ball compression at impact. The DST will help many golfers strike the ball better than they've ever done before.
Now, if you are a beginner or high handicapper, we don't recommend this tool for you. The DST Compressor will only frustrate and confuse you, and possibly drive you to damaging nearby objects with the club. We would recommend the Orange Whip as a better training aid for you. Even some mid handicappers might not be ready for the DST. We believe this tool is for mid to low handicappers - players that strike the ball consistently well and have a smooth, rhythmic swing. These are the players that will really benefit from using the DST Compressor.
DST Swing Training Aid Final Verdict
The bottom line is this tool works. It works really, really well. As with any training device or program, your results will depend on how committed you are, i.e. how consistently you practice with it. Even after just a few buckets at the driving range, many of our students were getting great results. This bizarre, bent shaft iron will help you improve your shots with your irons. You'll achieve better contact, longer distance, and greater feel. We strongly recommend that only intermediate to advanced golfers train with the DST Compressor! But for those ready for it, this tool comes with one of our strongest recommendations among all golf swing trainers.
