Top Travel Golf Bag Reviews
Quick Links
If you are anything like me, your vacations revolve around when and where you are going to golf. Whether I'm traveling to Hawaii, London, or Tokyo, after booking air travel and hotels, the next thing I'm looking for is where I'm going to golf.
There are a lot of golf courses out there that have high quality rental golf clubs. However, I've had several experiences renting golf clubs where the clubs were sub-par; a couple of times this was a very mild way of putting it. Then when I finally buckled down and got custom shafts, rental clubs just didn't cut it anymore. Yup, the days of traveling without golf clubs are in the past. If you're looking to take a trip where you plan to do some golfing, and you feel like you need to take your clubs with you, I completely understand. I'm right there with you.
So, you need a travel case for your clubs. When I was first shopping for a bag for my clubs, I didn't have any reviews or suggestions to go off of. Luckily for you, we took the time and trouble to try out and test more than 20 golf travel bags. Below you will find our golf club travel bag reviews, including our picks for best travel golf bags.
Reviews of the Best Travel Golf Cases
Best Overall Travel Golf Case
Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian
Review
The Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian travel case is a soft case that offers the protection of a hard case. Truly. There is plenty of support throughout the case to keep it sturdy and firm. Then the extra thick padding provides even more protection. This is the only soft case we tested that didn't give up any ground to hard cases in terms of protection. In fact, this was the most protective case we tested thanks to its rigidity and extra thick padding.
The standout feature of the Sun Mountain case is the retractable legs with wheels. The bag is very light at 11 pounds, but even with your clubs inside, you don't have to shoulder any of the weight thanks to the retractable legs. Even with my clubs and a couple dozen golf balls inside, my 5-year-old son had no problem pushing this bag around. This case was the easiest to maneuver of all the cases we tested.
The Sun Mountain ClubGlider Meridian is a very well-made product. We were blown away at the protection it offers as well as its maneuverability thanks to the retractable legs. For these reasons, it was the clear winner of our top pick for very best golf travel bag.
Best Hard Golf Travel Bag
Samsonite Primo Deluxe
Review
Samsonite is a name that is known for high-quality luggage. The Primo Deluxe travel golf bag falls right in line with the quality Samsonite is famous for. Four swivel wheels allow you to drag this case around upright or in a horizontal position with ease. It is lightweight and durable.
The interior is lined with quilted padding, and there is also extra padding made out of foam on top to keep your clubheads from getting damaged. The interior also features two compression straps to keep your bag from bouncing around inside of the case.
With a height of 54 inches, this case is long enough to fit even extra-long clubs. Keep this in mind when renting a car. It's likely that it won't fit in a sedan or smaller car without putting the back seat down. If traveling with 4 people, you'll need an SUV or truck to fit these in. The Samsonite 6850 was the best hard shell case we tested. Samsonite is my preferred brand for luggage. It's also our preferred brand for hard shell golf club cases.
Top Pick for Golf Soft Shell Travel Case
Bag Boy T-10
Review
The Bag Boy T-10 is a soft case with a hard top. Confused? Don't be. The soft portion of this case will cover your golf bag and protect it from dings and scratches. It relies on your golf bag to provide the firmness to protect the portions of the clubs that sit in your regular golf bag. Then the top, the portion of the case that covers the exposed sections of your clubs, is hard and offers better protection to the most vulnerable spots.
We like this case because it offers some of the nice features of a soft case: lightweight, easy to store (both in cars and hotel rooms), and less expensive. It also offers premium protection of the club heads. It is very well made, and wheels and a handle make it easy to move around. For these reasons, it is our pick for best soft shell case.
Most Affordable But Still Good Quality Travel Golf Club Bag
Athletico Padded Golf Travel Bag
Review
The Athletico Padded Travel Case is a purely soft case. As such, it comes with all of the benefits of a soft case and lacks the benefits (i.e. protection) of a hard case. The entire case is padded, which is nice. It also has a hard vinyl bottom that helps it act a bit more rigid and allows it to stand upright.
The shoulder strap is nicely padded, and the Velcro strap neoprene handles make carrying this case pain free. This is important because the absence of wheels means you will have to carry it. The 600D polyester outer lining is top-quality and durable. This was the most durable of all the soft cases we tested.
Admittedly it doesn't look like much. And it lacks the structural support and protection you would get out of a hard shell case. But it is actually a well-made, high-quality, durable case. And for the money, you won't find a better value. For these reasons, this is our choice for most affordable, while still high quality case.
