Senior Men’s Majek All Hybrid Complete Set

When we took the Majek (pronounced “magic”) all hybrid clubs out to test, we didn’t know what to expect. I’ve never seen a truly hybrid – from 3i to PW – iron set before now. This set includes 8 clubs: 3 through 9 and PW, all hybrids. The first thing we noticed was how easy they were to hit. We’re talking supreme forgiveness from top to bottom. These clubs also consistently provided good loft. The graphite shafts and the large club heads were very easy on the joints, especially when we hit the ball fat.

The flex in the shafts resulted in a nice smooth swing through contact with the ball. A couple of our testers noted that the 9 and the PW took them a while to get used to. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with these clubs. While not as good quality as some other sets we tested, their ease of use, forgiveness, and price point made these our clear pick for best affordable set.

Pros

  • Extremely forgiving and easy to hit
  • Graphite shafts provide greater distance
  • Easier on the joints due to flex in shaft and forgiveness through impact
  • Great loft for improved accuracy
  • Affordable option

Cons

  • Shorter clubs (9i, PW) may take a bit to get used to
  • Not as much feel at impact as irons

Best Quality All Hybrid Senior Irons Set

Cleveland Men’s Launcher XL Halo Iron Set

We had high hopes for this set because we are big Cleveland golf club fans. For these tests, we used the graphite shafts with senior flex configuration. This set comes with 7 clubs: 4 through 9 and PW. While a hybrid club is a cross between a fairway wood and an iron, these clubs were more of a cross between a hybrid and an iron. And we really liked them. These clubs were very forgiving and provided great distance. Hitting straight shots with great loft was an absolute breeze.

The clubs are very light and swung nice and smooth across the board. These clubs were really good quality – typical from Cleveland. We were blown away by the feel of these clubs. You can certainly buy standard irons that have better feel. But with the amount of forgiveness these clubs provide, it is amazing how much feel they deliver. For those of you who don’t mind spending a bit more for the best complete hybrid set, we fully endorse these clubs and can’t recommend them enough for seniors (I literally bought some for my dad for his 70th birthday).

Pros

  • Really good quality
  • Forgiving
  • Great distance and loft
  • Excellent feel

Cons

  • Higher price point

Best Irons For Seniors – Senior Flex Golf Clubs

Best Senior Flex Irons for Improved Consistency

Cobra LTDX One Length Iron Set

Cobra is a brand well-known for its high-quality clubs, and this set falls right in line with Cobra’s quality standards. The Cobra golf clubs for seniors were impressive and innovative. This set includes 7 clubs: 5 through 9 irons, PW and GW. The thing that sets this iron set apart from all others is that all of the clubs are the same length. Yes, the length of the 5 iron is the same as the length of the pitching wedge. While this may seem strange because it’s so uncommon, it actually makes a lot of sense. One of the biggest struggles we hear about from golfers is regarding their stance and setup.

How far away from the ball should they stand? How wide should their feet be? How much bend should there be in their knees and waste? The answers to these questions change, depending on which club they are using, which only adds to the confusion and struggle. With this iron set, your stance can remain the exact same, regardless of the club. These irons had a nice amount of forgiveness, while also maintaining good distance. In fact, because the length of the 9 iron and PW are a little longer than usual, we were hitting farther distances with these than we were with 9 iron and PWs from other sets. The clubs also offered decent feel through contact with the ball. If you struggle with consistency, or just want to improve your consistency with irons, these are absolutely the clubs for you.

Pros

  • Clubs are the same length for improved consistency
  • Graphite shafts for smoother swing and greater distance
  • Very affordably priced

Cons

  • Not suitable for advanced players

Senior Golf Club Sets

Most Affordable Senior Complete Golf Set

Wilson Senior Profile SGI Complete Set

Review

Our favorite set of golf clubs for seniors. Wilson is known for solid quality at affordable prices. This describes this set perfectly. This set includes 10 clubs: driver, 5-wood, 5-hybrid, 6 through 9 irons, pitching wedge, sand wedge, and putter. Also included is a cart bag and 3 head covers. The woods and the irons are all graphite shafts, which really helped give a boost in distance with slower swings. We also found that the combination of the flex and the club head design provided really good forgiveness. We really like that a sand wedge is included, making it a truly complete set (many of these more affordable complete sets stop at a pw). The putter was decent – not great, but not terrible either. This set is perfect for the casual golfer with a slower swing speed. Solid construction and consistent feel make this our top pick for best value complete club set.

Pros

  • Sand wedge is included (truly a complete set)
  • Great for slower swings
  • Forgiving
  • Best value for a complete set

Cons

  • Not suitable for advanced players
  • Lower quality than some of the more expensive sets we tested

Absolute Best Complete Golf Set for Seniors

Cobra Men’s Air X Speed Complete Set

We were excited to test a higher end complete set, this one by Cobra. The clubs we tested were the graphite senior flex shaft configuration. Included in this set are 12 clubs: driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, 4-hybrid, 5-hybrid, 6 through 9 irons, pitching wedge, sand wedge, and putter. Also included is a quality cart bag. We often find that regardless of the configuration, when we venture into the higher end clubs, they tend to leave beginner to intermediate players and seniors in the dust. This set was not that way at all. We found the weight, flex, and feel very favorable to senior players or players with slower swings. We really liked the driver and woods.

They hit consistently long and really had nice, large sweet spots and very nice forgiveness. The irons were excellent. Hitting the ball fat didn’t put any strain on the hands, arms, or joints. They also provided nice height and distance. We really liked the putter in this set – maybe more than any other putter we’ve tried in a complete set. It had a really soft touch through contact with the ball and naturally swung very smoothly. Of all the complete sets we tested, this is hands down the best set for seniors in our opinion. They are a little more expensive, but the quality of this set far surpasses most of the other complete sets. These are the type of clubs that will help you get better, without making you work too hard to get there. All things considered, this is actually a really value for a very high quality complete set.

Pros

  • Very good quality
  • Great feel and forgiveness
  • Excellent putter
  • Best complete set

Cons

  • More expensive

FAQ

Are graphite shafts better for seniors?

Yes. Graphite shafts are much lighter, which makes them easier to swing, especially those with slower swings. They also provide more flex in the shaft, which can assist with distance.

What swing speed needs a senior flex shaft?

What shaft should a senior golfer use?

It depends on your swing speed. If you are driving the ball around 190 yards, you likely are swinging the club at around 85 mph. In this case, you should be using a senior flex graphite shaft.
