We mentioned that you can play golf with others that have vastly different abilities than you and you can all still have fun. And this is absolutely true! However, the equipment that is being used will vary significantly based on abilities.

Golf Clubs

The golf clubs a beginner is using will be very different than the golf clubs an advanced player will be using. Furthermore, the beginner would not want to use the advanced player's clubs, nor would the advanced player wish to use the beginner's clubs. The beginner can also get away with spending a lot less on clubs. Advanced players cannot. Why? Because technology geared towards advanced players is much more complex and expensive. Beginners would not benefit from the more advanced technology, and higher skill level golf players would be hindered by technology geared towards beginners.

Learning to Golf

A key ingredient to learning how to golf is to...well, golf. The more you golf, the faster you can improve. That said, it's important early on to invest in your golf swing. Specifically, spend time (and maybe some money) on learning the correct fundamentals of the grip, stance, and swing. It is much easier to learn correct habits from the get go than it is to replace bad habits with good habits. There are a lot of YouTube videos that can help. There are also some great, simplistic, and inexpensive paid programs that will teach you correct fundamentals. Of course, there's the (most expensive) option of paying for lessons. Whatever you choose, if you plan to make golf a part of your life, we strongly suggest that you invest in your swing early on.

Playing Golf

Golf, like every other sport, has its own etiquette and sets of rules. Don't worry though. There's nothing too complicated, and we will lay out everything you need to know so you don't look like an idiot. Actually, somebody who views you as an idiot for "breaking" or simply not knowing etiquette or rules (unless in a tournament/competition setting) is the actual idiot. Unfortunately, they do exist.

We just avoid playing with these types of players. We actually think golf etiquette enhances the sport and the enjoyment of the game. For this reason, we will lay out proper golf etiquette for you. We will also lay the rules of golf out for you, and you can choose to follow them or not (again, unless in a tournament/competition setting).

Golf Attire

Some of you may not be aware, but there is attire that is specifically designed for golf. Golf attire includes hats, shirts, pants, shorts, shoes, gloves, and more. Golf shoes are the one item on this list we believe is essential for anybody going to play golf. Golf shoes improve your footing and grip on the grass while not damaging it.

Hats, shirts, shorts, and pants specifically designed for golf don't necessarily improve performance, especially compared to any other athletic clothing. However, there are some golf courses that enforce a dress code. For example, some courses require a collared shirt, prohibit jeans and/or shorts, or require golf shoes. Fortunately, there's a lot of really good looking clothing for golf.
